BIOGRAPHY

Kat Lumen shares her desires, doubts, joys and most intimate dances in seven languages: English, Spanish, Dutch, French, Portuguese, Basque and Italian. This polyglot by passion and philologist by training uses her voice, accordion, flute and piano or keyboard to touch the hearts and souls of her audience.

Kat because of Kateleine, the name her parents gave her when she was born. And because she feels she is from Madrid (people from Madrid are called “gatos“: cats) unless she was born in Holland. And because cats have always fascinated her.

Lumen, light in Latin, because of her intention to illuminate this world. And because the first piece she composed when she was fifteen years old was called “Lumen in Nocte”.

Kat Lumen sings and plays her own songs because she needs to express herself to make sense of life. It is her way of analysing her inner world. Art in general and music in particular make her feel connected to life.

Her insatiable curiosity leads her to investigate and she is currently experimenting with electronic sounds to give colour to her original compositions. Her music resists being tied down with labels and therefore her style is not easy to define. Some call it indie, others contemporary folk or soft pop, but it is undeniable that she manages to move her listeners with her songs and her presence. Her live concerts are an experience, in which Kat sincerely connects with her audience. Whenever possible, she collaborates with other (local) artists to create enriching encounters.

She has released five singles and an EP, produced by Mauri Corretjé and Matty Tyack, and currently she works on a new album. She realized concerts on events, festivals and venues in six countries: Spain, Holland, Morocco, Italy, Bulgaria and Brazil.
